Since the resignation of the Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak on February 11th, the U.S. has seen a noteworthy increase in imports from the country. Our U.S. Customs bill of lading database, TradeIQ™, shows that imports from Egypt, measured in TEUs, increased 71% from Q1 to Q2 of this year. The U.S. has not seen this level of imports from Egypt in nearly three years, since Q3 of 2008. The graph below illustrates the recent spike in imports. Egypt’s transition to democracy has seen a great deal of support from many people in the United States, including President Obama. Perhaps the increased trade in Q2 is evidence of that support.
