Though the President recently pushed for increased exports, it is also important to understand that imports make up a significant portion of the trade activity for the United States. Many of the products that are imported are as expected, like petroleum and toys, but thousands of other products are also imported from around the world.
In addition, product cycles dictate that the most imported products from one month will differ from next. This cycle is simple to understand, think about the holiday season and the need for stores to fill their shelves with toys and electronics.
