For the first six months of 2012, the U.S. has imported over $1.1 trillion worth of products; that's an increase of 6% from the first half of 2011. Below is a breakdown of the top 10 products imported to the United States so far for 2012. Imports of oil and passenger vehicles top the list, respectively, for the most imported products into the United States. U.S. Census Trade Data - September's Data

The U.S. Census Bureau released its Merchandise Trade data numbers on November 10th for September 2011. The Merchandise Trade balance narrowed from a deficit of nearly $70 billion in August to a deficit of $62 billion in September.

Below is an in-depth breakdown of the U.S. Census Merchandise Trade data. This month we have highlighted 3 interesting items that we found while looking at September's data:

Top Imported Products for the United States

Through August of 2011, the U.S. merchandise trade balance stands at -$482 billion. So far this year, the U.S. has imported 150% more than it has exported, in value. While the majority of products are imported from Asia, thousands of others come from around the world. 

Currently, 2011 import values are less than those seen in 2010. As the holiday season approaches, it will be interesting to monitor the changing product cycles as stores begin to stock up their shelves.
